Accused Violent Sex Trafficker Arraigned In Brooklyn Federal Court

Raul Granados-Rendon was part of a longterm trafficking ring that forced Mexican women into prostitution in America, court documents said.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, BROOKLYN — Accused sex trafficker Raul Granados-Rendon was extradited from Mexico to the U.S. and arraigned in Brooklyn's federal courthouse this weekend on charges that included sex trafficking of minors, interstate prostitution, alien smuggling and other related offenses, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the East District of New York announced Saturday.

Granados-Rendon is the latest in a string of more than a dozen people to be charged with a longterm human trafficking ring in which they allegedly smuggled Mexican nationals into America and forced them into prostitution, the U.S. Attorney's office said. Granados-Rendon, who had been on the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement's most wanted list since 2010, was arrested in September 2015 in Mexico, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. According to court documents, Granados and other members of the Granados sex trafficking organization based in San Miguel, Mexico smuggled young women into the U.S. and forced them into prostitution in New York City and other cities in America. On instances when the women resisted or refused to work, Granados and other members of the organization sexually assaulted and beat them and threatened to kill their children and other family members back in Mexico, court documents showed.

"This extradition, the latest chapter in our multi-year case against the Granados sex trafficking organization, again demonstrates our resolve to seek justice for victims of modern day slavery," said U.S. Attorney Robert Capers of the Eastern New York region. "We will not rest until those who seek to profit from the forced slavery of others are brought to justice."
