B, D, N, Q, R, W Service Snarled Due To Switch, Signal Problems

Signal and switch malfunctions caused a major headache for commuters during the Tuesday morning rush.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Switch and signal problems triggered a morning rush meltdown for subway commuters on the B, D, N, Q, R and W lines, according to the MTA.

Earlier switch trouble in Brooklyn has caused widespread delays on the D, N, R and W lines. MTA crews were able to make repairs to a switch at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, but heavy congestions remains along each line, transit officials said.

For a couple of hours early Tuesday morning, there was no service on the D, N or R lines south of Atlantic Avenue, causing the NYCT Subway Twitter account to offer elaborate bus route alternatives.

Service was furthered mucked up by a passenger pulling a R train's emergency brakes near the Union Street station in Park Slope. Transit workers have since moved that train and local Manhattan-bound R service has been restored between 36th Street and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, the MTA said.

For riders commuting to or from Queens, consider the E or F lines as an alternative.

Northbound B and Q trains are also running with delays after signal problems at the Prospect Park station in Prospect-Lefferts Garden, the MTA said.
