Brooklyn Bishop Under Vatican-Ordered Investigation: Reports

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, who previously investigated sex abuse in Buffalo, now faces scrutiny over similar accusations against himself.

BROOKLYN, NY — The Brooklyn bishop once tasked with probing another New York diocese's response to sexual abuse now faces official scrutiny over similar accusations directed at himself, according to reports.

The Vatican ordered Cardinal Timothy Dolan to open an investigation into Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, the New York Post reported.

DiMarzio has served as bishop of the Brooklyn diocese since 2003. He headed efforts to help victims of sexual abuse by clergy members and recently spearheaded an investigation into how the Buffalo diocese handled abuse cases.

Two weeks after DiMarzio concluded that investigation he faced accusations he molested an altar boy while serving as a parish priest in New Jersey during the 1970s.

DiMarzio vehemently denied the accusation.

The Vatican investigation ordered on Jan. 7 will be conducted with help from outside forensic investigators, the Post reported.
