Easter Brings Smiles to Brooklyn Residents in 2021

What a difference a year makes. Unlike how Covid impacted the city last spring, including Bushwick Center on Sheffield Avenue in 2020, 2021 has certainly got off to a much pleasant start, especially what the staff had for the residents this year. Recreational Leader Chasidy Gonzalez was the favorite Easter Cart girl visiting each of the rooms, passing out fun Easter baskets to each and every resident. Along with sweets, stuffed animals and arts and crafts, the residents loved it. The goodies went far and residents loved it, like Christmas morning all over again.

Every time Chasidy arrived at a room, residents were in awe of receiving a gift basket,” said Maria Machado, Director of Therapeutic Recreation. “They smiled, cried happily, just loving life this Easter Sunday.”

Easter Sunday was gloomy in 2020 as the facility, hit not as hard as some other facilities throughout the New York City, was locking down this time of year last year. Now in 2021, fun has started to come around again, especially in a large 225-bed facility like this, there’s only one was to go and that is up, especially for the 101 Bushwick Center residents and 37 staff personnel who survived Covid-19.
