Emojicon BK 2018 At The Bell House: See Pics
Daniela's Lens takes Patch to Brooklyn for a celebration of all things emoji!

Yesterday marked the second-ever Emojicon, celebrating the history and culture of our favorite emojis. From emoji-themed food and games to a conference with members of the Unicode Consortium’s Emoji Subcommittee, photographer Daniela Kirsch was on the scene to share exclusive photos of the exciting events. Take a look below!

12:54 p.m.
The Emojicon festival is happening in The Bell House in Brooklyn.
"I'm so happy we found enough sponsors to do this," tells me the organizer.

1:03 p.m.
Inside I meet the developer of the app Opico https://www.opico.io/ that lets you rate locations with emojis. Can you guess what play was on in this venue?

1:09 p.m.
"Emojiland is an off-broadway musical. It's about a group of emojis whose world gets rocked when a software update comes along and brings new emojis," the producer tells me.

1:11 p.m.
"I draw people with their favorite emoji," says Sophocles (@Sophocles.art) the artist.

1:13 p.m.
And this is Emily painted by Sophocles.

1:14 p.m.
The poop emoji is very popular here.

1:19 p.m.
The team from CBSe came all the way from Argentina to help promote adding the mate emoji.
"Mate is very healthy and keeps you going all day long." one of the girls says.

2:17 p.m.
Next up is a panel on the evolution and usage of the gun emoji. Most platforms have redesigned it to look more like a water pistol.

2:23 p.m.
The most used emoji by far is the tears of joy emoji!

2:26 p.m.
The crowd.

2:28 p.m.
Chris Dancy is next. He is the 'most connected man in the world' according to Google.

2:31 p.m.
He has earned his title for using up to 700 sensors, devices, applications, and services to track and analyze his life - from his calorie intake to his spiritual well-being. He uses emojis to rate his tracking data.

2:38 p.m.
Chris does 'iPhone Palmistry' where he looks at your phone and tells you who you are from your most used emojis and apps.

2:42 p.m.
Before I leave I admire these fascinating portraits made all from emojis by artist Yung Jake @yungjake.
