BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — The action never stops in Brooklyn. Here's what's happening in the borough this weekend.


Caravan Gitane Presents “Carnavale”
Neighborhood: East Williamsburg
What: A gender-fluid festival hosted by Caravan Gitane, a women-led New York City nightlife community. Check out house music from Concret, Dauwd, Francis Harris and Gam̈a, Caravan’s Gitane’s first gender-neutral artist, as stilt walkers, contortionists, aerial dancers, wizards and a mythological dance parade take over this warehouse concert venue for one night only.
Where: Brooklyn Mirage, Stewart Avenue at Meserole Street
When: Friday at 8 p.m.


Mermaid Parade
Neighborhood: Coney Island
What: The 36th annual celebration of mermaid culture in Coney Island.
Where: Parade starts at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, continues down Surf Avenue, turns left on West 10th Street until it reaches the Riegelmann Boardwalk
When: Registration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and ends when the parade begins at 1 p.m.

GimletFest
Neighborhood: Fort Greene
What: A two-day festival that showcases the best podcasts from Gimlet Media.
Where: BRIC, Fulton Street at Rockwell Place
When: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Juneteenth 2018: Unifying Cultures "The Brooklyn Melting Pot"
Neighborhood: East New York
What: In celebration of the abolition of slavery on June 19, 1865, this year’s annual Juneteeth festival in Brooklyn will also be held in honor of Father’s Day. All in attendance are encouraged to wear something that will help others identify their culture as part of the event’s new “unifying cultures” theme. Vendors will be on hand selling food and craft items, and activities and games for kids and their parents will also be available, along with a showcase and raffle prizes.
Where: Linden Park, Linden Boulevard and Vermont Street
When: The festivities kick off Saturday at 11 a.m.

Atlantis: Mermaid Parade After Party
Neighborhood: Bushwick
What: Dress up in your favorite “seaworthy” getup and dance the night away. This post-parade shindig features aquatic aerial spectacles, video art installations, a floating photo booth, mermaid beauty parlor, bioluminescent lagoon and much more. Costumes are required for entry. Admission is free with advance RSVP on Eventbrite.
Where: House of YES, Wyckoff Avenue and Jefferson Street
When: Get fishy with it on Saturday at 10 p.m.

The Black Parade: Emo, Pop-Punk, 2000s Alternative Throwbacks
Neighborhood: Williamsburg
What: If you rocked out to the sounds of My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, Blink 182, AFI, Panic! At The Disco, Good Charlotte and more back in the day, this event could be right up your alley. You may have trouble not singing along as DJs Jet & Swabby spin your favorite dark and brooding hits that never left your CD player in the early 2000s.
Where: Knitting Factory, Metropolitan Avenue at Havemeyer Street
When: Entry begins at 11:30 p.m. Admission is free before midnight with advance RSVP.

Brunch On The Water
Neighborhood: Sheepshead Bay
What: Brunch it up and party down aboard the Star Of New York, a Mississippi paddle boat featuring an outdoor rooftop and Caribbean, Spanish and American cuisine.
Where: Pier 8, 2027 Emmons Ave. at East 21st Street
When: Boarding begins Sunday at 8 a.m. for a 9 a.m. sail time

Brazilmania World Cup Kick Off Event
Neighborhood: Bushwick
What: Watch Brazil take on Switzerland in the World Cup on the big screen while munching on Brazilian barbeque and sweets and drinking down frozen passion fruit cocktails as live music from the Brazilian Brothers Band fills the air.
Where: House of YES, Wyckoff Avenue and Jefferson Street
When: Sunday at 12 p.m.
