Recycle That (Suddenly) Inappropriate Christmas Tree This Weekend

Mulch fest has arrived in Brooklyn!

BROOKLYN, NY — The holidays are over, folks, but your Christmas shrubbery may remain. Don't fret! There's an environmentally-friendly way to handle it, one that will contribute to the Circle of Life upon which we all depend. We're talking, of course, about MulchFest.

The city will be chopping up trees and turning them into mulch on Jan. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At some locations, you'll be given a bag of mulch, while at others, you just have to leave your tree behind. You can check out all participating spots using this interactive online map. And if you're extremely ambitious, you can you even register to help the Parks Department spread mulch around to protect young plants from the cold.

Mulching locations will be located in Red Hook, Park Slope, Gowanus, Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace, BoCoCa and Crown Heights, so there should be one close enough to make this environmentally-friendly activity easy to get to.
