Secret Service Laptop Stolen From Brooklyn Agent May Contain Trump Tower Floor Plan

Information about Hillary Clinton's emails and other data related to national security was also reportedly stored on the stolen laptop.

BATH BEACH, BROOKLYN — A Secret Service laptop containing Trump Tower floor plans and evacuation protocols, as well as information on the Hillary Clinton email investigation and other "sensitive" national security issues, was stolen Thursday morning from an agent's car while it was parked in her Bath Beach driveway, according to the New York Daily News' police sources.

"We've confirmed there was a theft of a laptop," a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service told Patch around 1 p.m. Friday. However, he said, "We're still trying to get an idea" of what was on it, and what that might mean for national security.

Around an hour later, the Secret Service sent us the following statement:

The U.S. Secret Service can confirm that an employee was the victim of a criminal act in which our Agency issued laptop computer was stolen.
Secret Service issued laptops contain multiple layers of security including full disk encryption and are not permitted to contain classified information.
An investigation is ongoing and the Secret Service is withholding additional comment until the facts are gathered.
The Secret Service requests anyone with information regarding this crime to please contact the New York Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service New York Field Office.

The NYPD refused to provide any additional information on the theft and instead deferred all comment to the Secret Service.

The high-stakes laptop was reportedly tucked into a black bag with a Secret Service logo on it, along with a stack of government documents and her access key card. Police told the Daily News they later found the bag — but without the laptop, the papers or the key inside.

"The thief stepped out of a car, possibly an Uber, on a street in Bath Beach and stole the laptop from the agent's vehicle," the Daily News reported. "He was then seen on video walking away from the scene with a backpack."

When Patch reached out to the Secret Service's press office a second time Friday afternoon to ask if it was typical for a Secret Service agent to leave her computer in a marked government bag in an apparently unlocked car in South Brooklyn, the woman who answered the phone said all the Secret Service's spokespeople were in an emergency meeting and that they'd have to get back to us.

"There's data on there that's highly sensitive,” the Daily News' police source said. “They're scrambling like mad.”
