St. Joseph's College Latest To Suspend Classes Amid Coronavirus
The Brooklyn campus will not have in-person classes until at least March 27 out of "an abundance of caution," a spokesperson said.
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — St. Joseph's College became the latest New York City-area school to halt in-person classes over coronavirus fears.
Officials announced Tuesday they will temporarily suspend classes until March 27. It will last the duration of spring break and cover the college's Brooklyn and Patchogue campuses.
"We are taking precautionary measures, just out of an abundance of caution," said spokeswoman Jessica McAleer Decatur.

Decatur stressed there are no known cases at the school, but said officials learned Tuesday a child student at the Brooklyn campus's Child Study Center would be self-isolating after a potential COVID-19 exposure.

Several New York City-area campuses have announced similar measures to halt in-person classes, including NYU and Columbia University.
A St. Joseph's worker told Patch they were worried they wouldn't be paid, but Decatur flatly denied that was the case.
"That is untrue," she said.
St. Joseph's spring break has also been extended until March 27. It originally was supposed to run March 14 to 20.
Online courses will continue as regularly scheduled, including during the week of March 20 to 27, a release states.
