Wegmans Names Opening Date For Its First NYC Store

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN — Wegmans announced the opening date this week for its first New York City location at the Brooklyn Navy Yards.

The 74,000-square foot grocery store on Flushing Avenue and Admirals Row will open for business on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 7 a.m., store owners announced.

The Brooklyn Wegmans will sell 60,000 products including more than 4,000 organic product, 300 varieties of cheese, and a full bar operating on the mezzanine, the company announced.

The company is still looking to hire more than 150 full-time employees — including prep, line, and lead cooks as well as customer service representatives — and will employ 500 people in total, according to a press release.

Wegmans Food Markets is a 99-store supermarket chain with locations in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts, according to the company website.

Store owners first filed permits to build out the massive Brooklyn Navy Yard grocery store in 2016, Patch reported at the time.
