Brownsville and East New York: Meet Your New Local Politicians

Brownsville and East New York's longtime incumbents cruised into office this Election Day.

BROWNSVILLE and EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — Incumbents maintained their seats across the Brownsville/East New York area on Election Day, earning strong support from Democrats and, at times, even Republicans.

Brownsville native Latrice M. Walker maintained her seat in the 55th State Assembly District in a landslide victory over Republican Berneda W. Jackson. Simcha Felder ran unopposed in the 17th State Senate District, but earned bipartisan support from Democrats and Republicans alike: 33,670 registered Democrats and 22,710 Republicans voted for him. Roxanne J. Persaud successfully ran unopposed in the 19th Senate District.

Ron Kim, the first Korean-American elected to the New York State Legislature, edged Miriam Rodriguez in the 40th State Assembly District.
