Brownsville Farm Provides Free, Fresh Produce For NYCHA Residents

The Howard Houses farm offers up fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs every Thursday.

BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN — Free and fresh fruits and vegetables are up for grabs from a local Brownsville farm.

Brownsville NYCHA residents willing to help out at the Howard Houses Farm near 60 Glenmore Ave. will receive free produce in exchange for weeding, watering and planting, State Senator Jesse Hamilton announced on Twitter.

Those without green thumbs can also trade compost items — such as fresh food scraps, egg shells and coffee grounds — in exchange for fruit, vegetables and herbs.
