Cops Release Photo Of Suspect Wanted In Anti-Hispanic Hate Crime

"Go back to your country," the suspect yelled, and then punched the Guatemalan immigrant in the face, fracturing his nose, police said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — Police have released a photo of the suspect who yelled hateful slurs at a Guatemalan man on the subway on March 1.

"F-----g Mexican," the suspect yelled at the man in a southbound train as it approached the Crescent Street station, according to the victim. "Go back to your country."

The suspect then punched the 27-year-old victim in the face, fracturing his nose.

The victim is, in fact, Guatemalan, and he has experienced bouts of anxiety since the attack, he told the New York Daily News.

"I get up early before dawn to go to work," he said. "I get on the same train nervous. I have to fight my fears. I have to go to work to support my wife and daughter. What else can I do?"

He added that only one person on the train helped him when he was being attacked.

"There were a lot of other immigrants there, but nobody else helped me," he said. "There was a white man holding luggage. He looked like he was coming from the airport. He was the only one who helped me. He took photos of my attacker. In the times we are living right now, immigrants don't want get involved with the police. There's a lot of fear."
