Cops Search For Fatal East New York Hit-And-Run Driver: NYPD
Cops have released photos of the car they say hit 50-year-old Vabita Arjune, who died nine days after getting hit in East New York.
EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — Police are searching for the driver who hit a 50-year-old woman in what would become a fatal hit-and-run crash in East New York.
The driver, which investigators now say was driving a grey Hyundai Sonata, crashed into 50-year-old Vabita Arjune when she was crossing Liberty Avenue near Crescent Street around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28.
Emergency responders found Arjune in the intersection with severe trauma to her torso and took her to Jamaica Medical Center. Arjune died from her injuries a week and a half later on Nov. 7, police said.

Police released photos of the car, which fled the scene after hitting Arjune. They describe it as a grey 2014 or 2015 Hyundai Sonata with damage to the driver's side mirror.
Arjune, who lived just a few blocks from the crash, had been walking from the laundromat to the supermarket when she was hit, the Daily News reported.

Family members told the News that Arjune was a Guyanese immigrant and mother of four.
“Mom is all we had,” her Davinine Boodhu, 25, told the outlet. “Yeah, you have family members. But it’s never going to be the same. It’s going to take some time to adjust — a really long time.”
