Dwayne 'Pearl' Washington, Syracuse Great From Brownsville, Dead at 52
The basketball star attended Boys and Girls High School in Bed-Stuy. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year.

BROOKLYN, NY — Brownsville native and Syracuse basketball great Dwayne "Pearl" Washington has died at 52.
Syracuse University, which Johnson attended, announced the news Wednesday.
According to the university, Washington underwent surgery for a brain tumor last year, "but was unable to survive his illness."

Before heading to Syracuse in 1983, Washington graduated from Boys and Girls High School in Bed-Stuy.
Washington was one of the most accomplished players in the history of the Syracuse basketball program, and spent three years in the NBA, including two seasons with the New Jersey Nets.
