Early Saturday Morning Shooting Leaves Man Dead on East New York Street
A 55-year-old Orlando man was shot dead early Saturday morning in East New York, and a suspect is in custody, NYPD said.
EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A shooting early Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 55-year-old Florida man in East New York, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) said.
Police were alerted of the street shooting via ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system, at 4:07 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17 , NYPD said.
Officers found Richard Green of 4512 Lake Martin Ln., Orlando, FL, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head in front of 630 Hendrix St., NYPD said.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene, police said.
A 21-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after, and a a black semi-automatic handgun was recovered near the crime scene, NYPD said.

The New York Post reports that the suspect "tossed the firearm and fled, but was caught shortly after. He was taken into custody and charges against him are pending."
The shooting took place in the NYPD's 75th Precinct, which patrols tEast New York. According to official police statistics, through Sept. 11, shooting incidences in the 75th were down 33 percent and shooting victims down 38 percent compared to the same period last year.
