First Two Applications Filed For 1,169-Unit Affordable Housing Complex 'The Fountains' in East New York
The two buildings slated for 881 Erksine St. and 702 Vandalia Ave. will house 209 affordable housing units.
EAST NEW YORK — Developers filed applications to begin work on The Fountains — an enormous affordable housing complex to be built near the Gateway Center, city records show.
Developers The Arker Companies and Fountain Seaview One Housing Development Fund Corporation filed two applications to begin building two nine-story buildings at 881 Erksine St. and 702 Vandalia Ave. on Friday, records show.
The two apartment buildings will be the first of a massive eight-building, 1,169-unit, 1.2-million-square-foot affordable housing development named The Fountains, which will be built on a vacant 6.7-acre plot of land, Governor Cuomo announced in May.

Arker Companies paid the state $10 million for the property which once belonged to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York as part of the Brooklyn Developmental Center which closed in 2015, according to the Governor’s office.
The Vandalia Avenue building is expected to hold 65 affordable apartments measuring at an average of 924-square-feet and the Erskine Street building will hold 144 affordable apartments measuring at an average of 823-square-feet, according to a Yimby report.

Rents in the two buildings are expected to range from $328 to $913 for a studio apartment, from $419 to $980 for a one bedroom, from $509 to $1,183 for a two bedroom and from $582 to $1,292 for a three bedroom.
City records show that Aufgang Architects will be the architect.
