Massive Complex To Bring 240 Affordable Homes To East New York, Report Says

There will be 20 four-story buildings and one 11-story building.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN – A massive complex of 21 buildings with 240 affordable units is coming to East New York, according to a report.

The buildings will go up at 389-516 Schroeders Ave., 1111-1123 Ashford St. and 127-129 Gateway Drive, according to documents cited by the Real Deal.

"The project will consist of 20 four-story apartment buildings and one 11-story apartment building spread across nearly 222,000 square feet," the website reported.

Monadnock Development will receive an estimated $40 million in tax-exempt bonds for the construction, the Real Deal said.

Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration has passed controversial zoning measures aimed at encouraging more affordable housing in East New York and other neighborhoods. Critics say the new housing will be too expensive for people already living there and pave the way for gentrification.
