NYPD Releases Video of Suspect in Attempted East New York Rape

The attempted rape occurred in the stairwell of a Loring Avenue apartment building early Saturday, police said.

EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — A 26-year-old woman was forced to the ground and sexually assaulted by a man who tried to rape her in the stairwell of an apartment building located at 1308 Loring Avenue at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the NYPD.

The unidentified man entered the stairwell from the third floor hallway, allowed the victim to pass him and then grabbed her from behind, placing his hand over her mouth, according to police. The suspect then forced the victim to the ground, sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her, police said. The suspect then removed $100 from the victim’s purse and fled on foot down the stairwell, according to the NYPD.

EMS transported the victim to Kings County Hospital for treatment, police said. The investigation by the NYPD Special Victims Unit is ongoing. Police are searching for the suspect, who was still at large Saturday night.

The NYPD has released surveillance footage taken inside the lobby of 1308 Loring Ave. The video shows the suspect exiting the incident location, according to police:

The NYPD describe the suspect as a black man in his late 20s, 5-foot-10 and about 150 pounds with tattoos on his arms. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a blue/purple t-shirt, black pants and black sneakers with white soles, according to police.
