Juanita Perez Williams to Attend World Premiere of "Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation" in California On Wednesday

Mayoral candidate Juanita Perez Williams will attend the world premiere of "Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation" on Wednesday.

SYRACUSE, NY – On Wednesday, Juanita Perez Williams will attend the world premiere of “Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation” as the guest of One Bowl Productions and Onondaga Nation Faithkeeper, Oren Lyons. The premiere is momentous because while the documentary centers on lacrosse, the message runs deeper than just a game. It represents the history of an indigenous people who founded what is considered one of the world’s oldest participatory democracies. Playing in the World Nationals symbolized their “existence as a sovereign people.” It brings attention to the history of the Iroquois and the Onondaga Nation, and reminds the world that there is a “6-mile by 6-mile country in the middle of Upstate New York.”

Perez Williams has run as someone who will be “A Mayor for Everyone.” This includes partnering with our neighbors to the south, strengthening our relationship to create mutually-beneficial strategies moving forward. Her administration will honor their proud history and work closely with them on issues that are important. Regarding the opportunity to attend the premiere, Perez Williams said, “I am honored to attend this historical event for the Onondaga Nation. Their influence in Upstate New York can still be seen today, and now the world will recognize their contributions to the increasingly popular sport of lacrosse.”
