Juanita Perez Williams Receives Historic Labor Endorsement
Syracuse Mayoral candidate Juanita Perez Williams receives historic endorsement from New York State labor union.

In a historic decision, the Public Employees’ Federation (PEF) endorsed Juanita Perez Williams for Mayor. This is the first major labor endorsement of the 2017 election.
The decision to endorse pre-primary and pre-Democratic designation is historic and significant. Regional Coordinator Chuck McRorie said, “Juanita has spent her entire life fighting for labor causes and our members. When New York State unjustly fired our members, Perez Williams stood up to Governor Pataki and fought to retain those jobs. Our decision to endorse this early in the race demonstrates our belief that she is the most qualified person running. Her experience with Labor, along with her relationships throughout the state, make her the best candidate to be the next Mayor of Syracuse.”
The Public Employees Federation (PEF) is a union representing 54,000 professional, scientific, and technical state employees. Their dedicated and talented members - NY's professional work force - keep our state government operating efficiently and provide quality services for all New Yorkers. PEF is affiliated with New York State United Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers and the Service Employees International Union.

Perez Williams belongs to the Public Employees’ Federation and is the only union member running for Mayor. She also worked closely with many of the unions in the region in her role as Regional Director of the Department of Labor. Regarding the endorsement, Perez Williams said, “I am humbled and grateful by PEF’s decision to endorse my campaign for Mayor. Our unions are vital to ensuring good-paying jobs, safe working conditions, and fair legislation for all our members. I look forward to working with them to give a voice to all union members and all individuals working in our city.”
In addition to her role in the Department of Labor, Perez Williams received the 2016 Greater Syracuse Labor Council’s “Friend of Labor” Award, handled Labor cases as an Assistant Attorney General and is a former Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy.
