Mayor Brown Announces Important Updates To Buffalo's Response To The Covid-19 Emergency 05-10-21

Buffalo, NY - Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced the kick-off of the Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL) “Camp Champ” Giving Campaign. The fundraiser provides Buffalo with a range of youth fun and educational summer experiences.

“PAL offers enjoyable and enriching summer experiences to Buffalo youth from sports and educational day camps, to weekend camping trips to Allegany State Park. We’re asking local businesses and residents to become ‘Camp Champs’ by donating to these great annual summer camp programs,” Mayor Brown said.

There are seven sponsorship tiers, ranging from $50 up to $1,000:

$50 – Provides fitness equipment, athletic apparel, and sneakers for kids and teens participating in PAL PLAYSTREETS sports and fitness programming

$75 – Provides books, academic supplies, and snacks for PAL youth participating in 6-week educational summer camps

$100 – Provides one child with 6-weeks of educational summer camp and daily meals

$150 – Provides one child with 6-weeks of ‘Love to Serve’ tennis camp and PAL golf clinics at Delaware Park

$250 – Provides two children with weekend camping trips to Allegany State Park (cover overnight lodging, meals and transportation)

$500 – Provides five children with 6-weeks of educational summer camp and daily meals

$1,000 – Appoints donor an official sponsor of Mayor Byron W. Brown’s 20th Anniversary Reading Rules! Kids Summer Reading Challenge

City Hall Dome and BuffaloLIT Partners to Light Up for Lupus Awareness

The City Hall Dome and the City’s many BuffaloLIT partners will be lit up in purple tonight to mark World Lupus Day. Since 2004, lupus organizations around the world, and here in Buffalo, have marked World Lupus Day on May 10th to raise awareness and educate the public about the symptoms and health effects of the autoimmune disease, and to ensure person with lupus and diagnoses and receive treatment.

Ohio Street Lift Bridge Closed to Vehicular and Pedestrian Traffic Until Summer 2022

The Ohio Street Lift Bridge, between Louisiana Street and Ganson Street, is now closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic to facilitate a major $15 million bridge repair and rehabilitation project. The bridge is expected to remain closed until Summer 2022.

Detour signs are posted rerouting drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to Michigan and Ganson streets. Commercial and recreational water traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project.

It’s Spring Bulk Trash Week in the Masten District

Masten District residents are reminded to follow all posted parking restrictions to make way for Bulk Trash collection, which will take place through Saturday, May 15th. Residents are also asked to have all their bulk trash items at the curb, so it’s ready for pick up. Bulk trash collection will take place very day this week, not just on regular garbage and recycling days.

In addition to following rules on what can be put in bulk trash, residents are reminded that ALL posted parking restrictions will be enforced to make way for trash collection.

Bulk Trash Week Rules:

• Posted parking restrictions will be enforced during bulk trash weeks.
• Curbside bulk trash piles cannot not exceed 12 ft. long, 3 ft. wide and 3 ft. high.

- Electronic trash, such as televisions and computers, are not allowed to be placed in bulk trash.

- Tires are not permitted to be disposed of in bulk trash.

Slow Roll Buffalo Tonight

Tonight’s Slow Roll Buffalo Ride will start and end at The Terrace, in Delaware Park off Lincoln Parkway. Motorists are asked to stay alert for cyclists, especially in the Hamlin Park and Trinidad neighborhoods.

Participants are asked to wear masks and have a bike light. The ride begins promptly at 6:30 p.m., with riders spaced in COVID-safe groups. The Terrace will host an after-party with food, music and fellowship.
