$1,950-A-Month Bushwick Studio Is 'Affordable,' City Says

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — The latest batch of "affordable" Bushwick apartments to hit the housing lotto start at $1,850 a month and require applicants earn up to $138,000 a year, city records show.

A dozen new apartments opened up Friday at the Knickerbocker Lofts, a new luxury development on Halsey Street, according to the NYC Housing Connect website.

Only New Yorkers who meet specific income requirements will be able to apply through the city's Mandatory Inclusionary Housing program, which allows developers to build beyond local zoning regulations if they provide a set number of units at affordable prices.

At Knickerbocker Lofts, no one earning less than 130 percent of New York City's area median income is eligible to apply, city records show.

Three studios — two going for $1,850 a month and one for $1,950 — demand applicants earn between $63,429 and $97,110 annually, city records show.

Three one-bedrooms — one priced at $2,095 and two at $2,145 — require applicants to earn between $71,829 and $111,020 a year.

And six two-bedroom apartments — three that cost $2,400 and three that cost $2,470 — mandate applicants earn between $82,286 and up to $138,710 every year.

Amenities in this luxury building include access to bike parking and a courtyard, according to the city listing.

New Yorkers who do qualify have until June 3 to submit an application through the NYC Housing Connect website, city records show.
