$160K-Income Doesn't Bar Bushwick 'Affordable' Home Applicants

A $160,000 annual income does not bar families from applying for the newest Bushwick apartments to hit the affordable housing lottery.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — A $160,000 annual income needn't stop New York families from applying for the newest batch of affordable housing to become available in Bushwick, city records show.

Five new apartments at 79 and 81 Stanhope St. that hit the NYC Housing Connect lottery Friday, but the one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments are only available to applicants earning 130 percent of the area median income.

A single person must earn more than $63,429 and less than $97,110 a year to apply for the $1,850-a-month one-bedroom, the listing shows.

Those applying for one of three two-bedroom apartments, which cost $2,200 a month, must bring in between $75,429 and $138,710 a year.

And households applying for the $2,350-a-month three bedroom must earn between $80,572 and $160,940 annually.

The four-story, eight-unit building comes with amenities that include a virtual doorman, rooftop terrace, central heating and air conditioning and a laundry room residents must pay to use.

The apartments, which stand on Stanhope between Evergreen and Central avenues, are within walking distance of the Central Avenue M train station and the Kosciuszko Street J train station.

City records names the building's owner as Leo Kaufman of Stanhope Capital LLC.
