Roaches In Bushwick Boutique Hotel Force Cafe To Close: City

Hotel RL, where a woman was chased to her death in 2018, earned 68 violation points during a health inspection last week.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Health inspectors shut down a roach-infested cafe in a Bushwick boutique hotel that made headlines in March when a young woman was chased out of the lobby and murdered.

Hotel RL at 1080 Broadway racked up 65 violation points Wednesday from Department of Health and Mental Hygiene inspectors who found raw and contaminated food, live roaches and inadequate sanitizing facilities, city records show.

The boutique hotel has a cafe and bar in the lobby, where Ebony Young, 20, was chased by her attacker into a nearby deli and stabbed to death on March 26, police said.

This is the first time the Hotel RL eatery has failed its health inspection since opening in November 2016.

DNAinfo reported at the time that plans to call the hotel bar Weeksville, after one of the country's first free black communities, rankled locals who thought the name disrespectful.
