Bushwick Eatery Serves Up History For Cinco De Mayo: Report
La Loncheria will pay tribute to the Battle of Puebla with specialty foods and drinks to mark the fifth of May, Eater reports.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN -- In honor of Cinco de Mayo this Saturday, one Brooklyn restaurant will serve up food and drink specials that double as a history lesson.
La Loncheria, a contemporary Mexican cafe in Bushwick, will mark the fifth of May with specialty food and drinks that pay tribute to the Battle of Puebla, Thrillist reported.
The battle on May 5, 1862, took place near Puebla City, Mexico, during the Second French Intervention, winning the Mexican Army a victory over the occupying French soldiers.

The food and drink items on La Loncheria's Cinco de Mayo specialty menu are sourced from the region the battle took place in, one of the world's richest for food, Thrillist reported.
Drink specials include a twist on the classic negroni with Mezcales de Leyendas - alcohol made from an agave plant native to Mexico - and Pueblan ancho reyes - a spicy liqueur made from ancho and poblano chiles in Puebla - according to the news outlet.

Among the specialty dishes are a Pueblan cemita of marinated dry-aged beef served between slices of homemade pan de agua, or Puerto Rican water bread, Thrillist reported.
La Loncheria slings authentic tacos, tortas, beers, wines and tacos at 41 Wilson Ave. Danny Mena, chef behind the critically-acclaimed Hecho en Dumbo, and Oscar León Bernal opened the Mexican restaurant in December 2017, according to their website.
Patch could not immediately reach either owner for comment on their Cinco de Mayo dishes.
The Mexican cafe will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday. Entry is free, and specialty cocktails are $14.
