“Similar to astronauts, filmmakers demonstrate courage, the ability to intimately collaborate, and an infinite imagination," Bushwick Film Festival founder and director Kweighbaye Kotee explained in a July press release. "In many ways, creating an independent film is in itself a moonshot—ambitious, exploratory, and undertaken regardless of the myriad of risks at play. That’s why we celebrate filmmakers and the stories they go to great lengths to tell."
"Creating a film is a moonshot that requires visionary thinking and the courage to persist," she said on September 5. "This year, we are so excited to celebrate this ethos and foster a community of dreamers and doers."
