Bushwick: Meet Your New Local Politicians

Democratic incumbents cruised to easy victories in Bushwick this election.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Residents in Bushwick overwhelmingly voted for local Democratic incumbents on Election Day, with only one candidate facing competition from a Republican challenger.

Democrat Erik Martin Dilan defeated Republican candidate Khorshed Chowdhury in the 54th State Assembly District. In the 53rd State Assembly District, Democrat Maritza Davila ran unopposed to clinch her second full term. She was first elected in a special election in 2013 before she was re-elected in 2014.

In the New York Civil Court, Democrat Odessa Kennedy was the only new face as she joined incumbents Dena E. Douglas and Jacqueline D. Williams.

The lone Senate race in Bushwick was rather uneventful as well, with Simcha Felder winning unopposed in the 17th State Senate District.
