BUSHWICK, NY — A Bushwick school was awarded as a National Blue Ribbon school, the Department of Education announced Thursday.

Achievement First Bushwick Charter School, home to students in grades K through 8, received the honor.

The honor "affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content," and is "based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups," according to the Department of Education. The Bushwick charter school is among 362 schools in the country to be given the award.
