Bushwick Sees Biggest Apartment Construction Boom In NYC: Study

More than 1,000 new apartments will be built in Bushwick this year, new data show.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Bushwick will see more new apartments build this year than any other neighborhood in New York City, a new study shows.

Developers plan to build 1,103 new apartments in Bushwick in 2019, according to an analysis of statistical data from real estate website RENTCafe.

With more than a thousand new units coming into the 85,000-resident neighborhood, Bushwick far outpaced its competitors, the data show.

Jackson Heights ranked just underneath Bushwick for new apartment developments with only 553 units, or about half those expected to be built in Bushwick, according to RENTCafe. Astoria came third with 503 new apartments planned.

This Bushwick construction boom contributed to New York City ranking third in the nation for new apartment construction with 13,418 new apartments slated to built in 2019.

Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas and Seattle were the only other cities to see more development with 22,196 and 13,682 new units, respectively.

RENTCafe’s team analyzed new apartment construction data from 134 U.S. metropolitan areas that related to buildings with 50 or more units scheduled to be completed in 2019.
