Bushwick Teen Wielding Fake Gun, Killed By Police, Shot 14 Times
18-year-old Sergio Reyes was shot in his heart, lungs, aorta, spinal cord, liver, stomach and bones, the medical examiner's office said.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Eighteen-year-old Sergio Reyes from Bushwick, who was killed by police on Sunday morning, was shot 14 times, the medical examiner's office said. The fatal shooting occurred after the teen allegedly robbed a grocery store with a realistic-looking pellet gun. Reyes was shot in his heart, lungs, aorta, spinal cord, liver, stomach and bones, according to results from the medical examiner's office. His death is being treated as a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
Patch asked the NYPD if it planned to reveal the names of the officer or officers who fatally shot the teen, and if any officers were charged in connection with the incident. An NYPD spokesperson replied via email, "You could direct that ridiculous question to the Brooklyn District Attorney Office."
A request for comment from the Brooklyn DA's office was not immediately returned.

Three officers from the 83rd precinct responded to a call of a robbery at gunpoint at the Garden Deli at Irving Avenue and Starr Street in Bushwick at around 12:40 a.m., cops said. Once at the deli, the officers talked to witnesses and gathered evidence about the robbery, the NYPD said. The officers then saw the suspect walking west on Starr Street, according to the NYPD. They "gave verbal commands and engaged the suspect in front of 169 Starr Street," said Chief of Patrol Terence A. Monahan. The suspect allegedly raised his fake firearm toward the officers, and the officers fired at Reyes, striking him multiple times, Monahan said.
The teen was then taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing, and the NYPD has still not identified the official suspect of the robbery, Monahan said. The NYPD released a surveillance photo of the suspect robbing the deli and a photo of the fake firearm recovered at the scene.
