Bushwick Volunteers Tote Turkeys To 500 Families For Thanksgiving

A local nonprofit will host a massive deep-drying event Wednesday so that Brooklyn families can have turkey dinners on Thanksgiving.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Families who live in homes without ovens can still enjoy a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving, thanks to a crew of volunteers in Bushwick.

Local politicos and volunteers will gather at nonprofit Churches United For Fair Housing headquarters on Wednesday for a day of dunking and deep-frying turkeys, organizers announced Tuesday.

The fried and frozen turkeys being prepped are expected to feed about 500 needy families across the borough, said CUFFH.

After the cajun-style birds are prepped, volunteers will deliver them to homes, soup kitchens and food pantries across the borough, organizers said.

Volunteers will gather at CUFFH headquarters at 66 Whipple St. to begin battering and frying the turkeys at 11 a.m.
