Momofuku Chef's Bushwick Eatery Closes After 5 Months: Report

Teo, a Bushwick izakaya from Momofuku alum Joaquin Baca closed after just five months, according to reports.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — A Japanese restaurant run by a former Momofuku chef closed after just five months in Bushwick, according to owners and reports.

Owners of Teo, the izakaya that opened at 321 Starr St. in December, announced the eatery had closed on the restaurant website this week.

"It is with much regret that Teo will be closing it’s doors," the message reads. "Thank you to the welcoming community in Bushwick, fellow businesses that supported us on this journey, and every guest that has come and shared in this experience with us."

Teo's owner Chef Jaoquin Baca told Eater via email that investors decided to close because they felt the izakaya was “too ‘ambitious’ for Bushwick.”

The restaurant is the second of Baca's to close, according to Eater. His Williamsburg restaurant Brooklyn Star shut down one year ago after nine years in the neighborhood.
