Mother's Day Weekend In Brooklyn: Celebrate Your Mom And Avoid The Nor'easter Indoors

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — It’s going to be a rainy, gross weekend, your mother is coming, and she expects to be celebrated. Don’t panic. No matter how fierce the nor’easter, there will still be a slew of things you two can do together to make her feel special.

As an act of mercy, Patch has gathered our favorite indoor events happening in Brooklyn this weekend. If you really want to wow your mom (or you’re planning on borrowing money from her in the near future) you’re going to have to take her to brunch — so be sure to check out Patch’s guide to the city’s best up-and-coming restaurants.

• What: Find out what happens when a boy’s best friend is his mother.
• How Much: $4 a pop.

Mom Entrepreneurs Shopping Spree

• Where: Peace and RIOT, 401-403 Tompkins Ave.
• Neighborhood: Bedford-Stuyvesant
• When: Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• What: Let your mom pick out her own damn gift, but don't put it like that.
• How Much: As much as your mom is worth to you.

Happy Days

• Where: Theater For A New Audience, 262 Ashland Pl.
• Neighborhood: Fort Greene
• When: Performances at 2 p.m. Saturday, 7:30 Saturday and 2 p.m.
• What: Have you ever envisioned your mom buried in sand from the neck down? This is the play for you.
• How Much: Tickets range from $65 to $120.

My Mother Was a Freedom Fighter: Mother’s Day Poetry Reading

• Where: Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Pkwy
• Neighborhood: Prospect Heights
• When: 3 p.m.
• What: The Brooklyn Museum hosts Brooklyn-born Aja Monet as she reads from her new collection of poems, “My Mother Was a Freedom Fighter.” You might also stop by the Georgia O’Keefe “Living Modern” exhibit, which puts the artist’s work and wardrobe on display.
• How Much: $12 a ticket

Church Of The Infinite You With Minister Jean Grae

• Where: The Bell House, 149 7th St.
• Neighborhood: Gowanus
• When: 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 14
• What: Jean Grae integrates music, comedy, and visual media with this non-denominational performance. Drinks will be served.
• How Much: $10 in advance and $12 at the door

DUMBO Open Studios 2017

• Where: Artist studios across DUMBO
• Neighborhood: DUMBO, duh.

• What: More than 100 artists will showcase their work during this annual event.
• How Much: Free!
