New Subway-Inspired Bushwick Apartment Building Is Ready for Residents
This new Bushwick building gives residents the impression they can ride the subway all the way home.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN – A recently completed residential building at 132A Stanhope St. in Bushwick is turning heads not for its ultramodern fixtures or large balconies — though it offers both — but for its unique design inspired by the New York City subway system.
The outside of the building features a massive subway map, while features inside include white-tiled walls, green posts and yellow railings — all straight out of the MTA stylebook.
Patch spoke to a construction supervisor on the project and got a tour of the building's eye-catching style compared to the more conventional apartment buildings nearby. Theodore, who preferred not to give his last name, has worked on the project since February.

"I think it's beautiful," he stated, adding that the idea for the building's one-of-a-kind look was part of the architect's original plan. He pointed to the oversized balconies as one of the building's more enviable amenities.
Besides large balconies, the units also offer the latest in kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The details throughout the building underscore the subway theme with bright yellow stripes, similar to platform-edge warning strips, and exposed metal staircases.

The artwork in the common areas also reinforces the subway theme, with images and fonts that are evocative of the MTA's style. Silver and green are commonly used colors, and visitors are greeted by a sign that names the building itself as Stanhope Station.
So far, only one unit in the building is occupied, but the others are sure to go quickly as demand for Bushwick living space continues to increase.
"[Bushwick] has changed a lot for the better," said Theodore, who lives in Bushwick. "It's got great diversity, got everything you need."
