Old Brick Warehouse in Bushwick Will Transform Into Trendy Art/Food/Office Complex
Here's what's in store for the 35,000-square-foot warehouse at 199 Cook St.
BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — Another one bites the dust.
The musty, century-old industrial warehouse at the corner of Cook and White streets, out of use for some time now, will reportedly be transformed into a trendy art/food/office complex by developers with aspirations to maintain the building's original charm.
According to the Commercial Observer, the three-story, 35,000-square-foot warehouse at 199 Cook — situated at the north end of Bushwick, near East Williamsburg — is being reimagined by the Mann Group and its design firm of choice, Syndicate Architecture, as a multifaceted neighborhood hub that will cater to the area's newly transplanted artists, tech startups and entrepreneurs.

“It’s a century-old building, so we’ve put a lot of care and love into restoring it along the way, while trying to find a use for it that is still about making something,” Bryon Russell, one of the architects, told the Observer.
The Mann Group reportedly purchased the dilapidated warehouse in the summer of 2013 for $6 million, and plans to complete renovations by February 2017.

The Observer reported Friday that the building will host a 3,000-square-foot restaurant — equipped with an in-house DJ (curating tunes until 4 a.m.) — in its cellar.
The high-ceilinged ground floor will then be divided into five gallery spaces, ranging in size from 1,200 square feet to 1,500 square feet, the report said.
Above that, on the second and third floor, the developer reportedly plans to build nearly 30 small offices.
And of course, to complete its Bushwick-ification, 199 Cook will be topped off with a rooftop lounge where the building's creative gentry can gather, according to the Observer. “This is sort of the new face of local manufacturing," Russell told the paper.
