Reddit Wants Subway Sandwiches To Be Subway Stations In Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — A Reddit user reimagined what the subway system would look like if every Subway sandwich store in Brooklyn became a station and residents were pretty much unanimous in their approval.

“Surprisingly, this would be a better way to get around Brooklyn,” wrote Reddit user snaccidentally.

“F---," Redditer DoFDcostheta added. "This would make my life so much easier.”

The Subway subway map, published to the Brooklyn sub-Reddit on Tuesday, shows a borough where residents in one neighborhood could travel to another without hitting the maze-like Atlantic Terminal or making a transfer in Manhattan.

A Green line runs down the East River coast, connecting Williamsburg, downtown Brooklyn, Sunset Park and Bay Ridge. The brown and orange lines run the perimeter of eastern and southern Brooklyn, providing access from between neighborhoods, such as Coney Island and Bushwick, that currently don't have a direct connection.

Reddit user Isaiah Bryant, 15, from Toronto, created the sandwich maps for Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island after he saw a similar project in Waterloo, he told Patch.

“I've always loved maps, public transportation and urban planning,” Bryant said in a Reddit message. “When I saw the original subway map post, of the region of Waterloo by u/nextasy, the idea clicked with me.”

There are eight lines on the hypothetical transit system with just 76 stations (the real subway system has nine lines in Brooklyn and about 170 stations), yet Redditers were quick to show support for the concept.

“As someone who lives RIGHT next to a subway, I got way too excited about this hypothetical,” commented careful_ibite.

“With this current MTA,” said larrylevan, “Anything that actually works would be better.”
