BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — The Salvation Army will open a new thrift store on May 6 at 937 Broadway in Bushwick.

For at least its first month, the store will charge just $1 for items of clothing and $2 for pairs of shoes, according to Maj. Joe Irvine, who heads the charity's Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC).

The lot at 937 Broadway is smaller than most Salvation Army thrift stores, according to Irvine. He described the new location's pricing model as "a bit of a pilot."

However, he said his group "recognize[s] the need for low-cost clothing in the neighborhood, and [low prices are] one of the ways we can fulfill our mission."

The ARC is a free, faith-based program that runs a 135-bed addiction treatment facility at 62 Hanson Pl. in Fort Greene.

Irvine said all proceeds from the Salvation Army's family stores in New YorkCity are used to fund the ARC.

Salvation Army's new Bushwick location will be its only one in North Brooklyn, after it closed its Greenpoint location last year.

In addition to clothing, the Broadway store will also offer furniture, electronics and other small items.

The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. It will be closed Sundays.

Donations will be accepted at Salvation Army's new Bushwick outpost. However, due to the limited on-site parking, Irving asked that residents drop off their items off at the 22 Quincy St. location in Clinton Hill if possible.
