What To Do In Bushwick This Weekend

You can go to an African music celebration, a disco party and more the weekend of Oct. 11 in Bushwick.

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — There's plenty to do in Bushwick this weekend, including multiple dance parties and a celebration of African music.

At House of Yes, at 2 Wyckoff Ave., the weekend kicks off with a Friday evening Blunderland Variety Show, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

"Drawing from the finest burlesque, circus, cabaret, and queer scenes, BLUNDERLAND is a trip down a rabbit hole of scintillating surprises you won't soon forget," the event description reads. "This show is hand picked, juicy, and super fresh for your viewing pleasure."

Tickets cost $25 for general admission and $35 if you want to guarantee yourself a seat.

The Blunderland show isn't the only option at House of Yes Friday night; there's also a disco party, dubbed Discotechnique: Dead Sexy, begining at 10 p.m.

"A night of disco beaconing the legends past, designed to bring the glory days back to life!" reads the event description. "Dance your heart out, live your glitter covered eternity on the dance floor." The disco party starts at 10 p.m., and with an RSVP—or a costume—you can get in free of charge.

On Saturday, doors open at 10 p.m. for a Be/ Scene dance party featuring Dutch DJ Sander Kleinberg.

"Tonight we illuminate and celebrate the unique YOU to create magic on the dance floor," says the event description. "Prepare your soul for dance party artistry and dress to express your best everything. ... Dress to Express! Bright & Bold, Bodacious & Outrageous! Go big, go wild, be your Exxxtra Extravagant self."

And on the pre-Columbus Day Sunday, House of Yes will host a celebration of African music and the late Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $20.

A couple blocks away at Elswhere, at 599 Johnson Ave, East Bay-based rapper Caleborate will perform Friday evening at 6 p.m. in Zone One of the venue. Tickets for the show cost $15.

Later on Friday night, at 10p.m., electronic music performers Helena Hauff, Minimal Violence , Octonomy, Andi, Shyboi, Katie Rex, Heidi Sabertooth & John Barera will hold a show in Zone One and The Hall. Tickets for the event are $25.

Elsewhere will hold a duo of events on Saturday, as well.

At 6 p.m., Indie-Rock groups Les Savy Fav, The Dodos, Eleanor Friedberger, Diet Cig, Drowners, Twen and others will perform in celebration of the 20th anniversary of independent music lab Frenchkiss Records. Tickets for the show are $40.

Later, British dance music group Horse Meat Disco will perform alongside DJ Amber Valentine and Lauren Flux at 11 p.m. Tickets are $40.

For a cheaper evening with live music, The Cobra Club may be the place for you.

On Saturday, doors open at 8 p.m. for $7 for performances from Cash Registers, Recreational Outrage, The Challenged, and Teenage Bigfoot, according the the club's event page.

On Sunday, Toby Goodshank, The Burning Hell and others will play after 8 p.m., when doors open. The price to get in Sunday evening has not been announced.
