Zodiac-Themed Bar 'Mood Ring' Coming To Bushwick In September

BUSHWICK, BROOKLYN — A zodiac inspired cocktail bar with Chinese snacks and a Berlin DIY vibe is coming to the neighborhood this fall.

Mood Ring will be serving astrology-themed cocktails and a limited Chinese menu at a new space opening up at 1260 Myrtle Ave. this September, the owners announced on Facebook.

Co-owners Bowen Goh and Vanessa Li are hoping to create a unique atmosphere for each of the 12 astrological signs by offering up a rotating cocktail menu and adaptable interior designs, they said in an interview with Bushwick Daily.

“We didn’t want Mood Ring to be a too ‘on the nose’ astrology-themed bar,” said Li. “So we’re playing with this idea of illustrating different personalities and moods."

As an example, Li and Goh teased the Take Me Higher, a Virgo-styled cocktail with St. Germain elderflower liqueur to represent “analytical, thoughtful people,” and the Gucci Belt.

The decor will be inspired by the DIY spaces of Berlin, where Li and Goh found a thriving queer scene and laxer zoning laws made for a wider array of creative venues, the likes of which that they'd like to see in Bushwick.

“There are very few laws or permits for opening businesses, which allows young people to be creative and allows the space to be more cohesive to the areas they belong to,” Goh told Bushwick Daily. “With Mood Ring, we want to take that Berlin-mindset.”

While the owners have yet to set an opening date, slated for some time in September, they have already picked out a cocktail bar mantra:
