$1M in FEMA Funds Will Restore Carroll St. Bridge
Senator Charles E. Schumer announced Friday that the vital link between Park Slope and Carroll Gardens will receive federal aid.

Sen. Charles E. Schumer announced Friday that the Carroll Street Bridge in Gowanus, Brooklyn, will receive more than $1 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance funding for its repair following Hurricane Sandy.
“Superstorm Sandy ravaged Brooklyn’s Carroll Street Bridge with flooding of up to 30 inches above the deck,” said Schumer in a release. “I ride my bike over this bridge all the time; it is a vital link between the Slope and Carroll Gardens and beyond."
The Carroll Street Bridge allows Brooklyn pedestrians and motor vehicles to commute over the Gowanus Canal between neighborhoods. During Superstorm Sandy last fall, the bridge sustained major damage and sustained flooding of up to 30 inches above the bridge deck. The bridge is currently closed for repairs.
Now, $1,660,141 in FEMA funding has been designated toward the New York City Department of Transportation for the Carroll Street Bridge to restore it to its pre-storm status.
