Some readers recently wrote to Patch asking what was happening at 501 Union Street in Gowanus. So today we stopped by.
Construction is well underway at the site, which is owned by Akiva Reich, proprietor of The Green Building event venue—and popular wedding hall—across the street.
Workers allowed us a peek inside the 3,500 square foot space, which includes an open-air front patio area, a small bar off to the side and a larger entertaining room featuring a 50-foot skylight.
This new project will be a "combination catering hall and community center" that will also house a private social club, according to an earlier interview with DNAInfo.
Workers could not confirm to Patch whether it will be called The Blue Building based on current interior paint hues.
But one thing is certain: Gowanus gets fancier by the minute.
