Beyoncé Forces Cobble Hill Tribute Bar To Drop Her Name

The singer sent a cease-and-desist letter to the owners of Leyenda over their Sleyenda pop-up bar that honored Beyoncé.

COBBLE HILL, NY — Queen Bey stopped another Brooklyn spot from saying her name after she forced a planned Beyoncé-themed pop-up bar to not use her likeness, Eater NY first reported.

The singer's lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the owners of Cobble Hill's Leyenda last month over their planned Beyoncé-themed pop-up bar, Sleyenda, which took over their 221 Smith St. restaurant for December.

"I am a huge Bey fan and think 'Lemonade' is an anthem of the ages," co-owner Ivy Minx said in a statement to Patch. "We wanted to create Sleyenda to celebrate her and that message. I guess I was a little bummed she didn't share the enthusiasm."

Sleyenda didn't finish the pop-up bar before they got hit with the letter, but owners planed to have menus printed on Beyoncé Christmas cards, a Beyoncé tree topper with ornaments and stockings that spelt out "BEY," according to Eater.

Minx said that the spot was set up to "pay homage to female empowerment" and had a "Latin Holiday Pop-up" theme that also honored pop-stars like Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry. However, Beyoncé's legal team wasn't thrilled about the honor and sent a letter on Nov. 15 threatening legal actions if the bar didn't stop using her name, according to the cease-and-desist posted on Eater.

The news comes a week after Beyoncé's legal team stopped another Brooklyn spot from using her name to sell drinks. Her lawyers also sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Sunset Park's Lineup Brewing to stop the sale of its "Biëryoncé" beer.

The Sleyenda pop-up bar will still run, sans Beyoncé references, until Dec. 27, owners said.
