NYPD investigators have determined that the Benz was traveling eastbound on Atlantic when the pedestrian — heading south — attempted to cross the wide, busy roadway.

Photos taken at the scene indicate that the dark-colored vehicle struck the 66-year-old just a few feet shy of the crosswalk.

According to Tripoli Restaurant, a Lebanese-food joint located at the intersection, the victim worked at Oriental Pastry & Grocery a little further down Atlantic. The popular Middle-Eastern shop is reportedly a Cobble Hill staple, run by a Syrian immigrant and his brothers.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim, pending notification of family members.

“The male pedestrian was transported via EMS to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” says the NYPD in a statement. “The operator of the vehicle remained at the scene.”

The crash is currently being probed by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.
