Calamari and Zucchini with Salsa Picante from Monte's
The new Monte's tastes like starting all over again.

Crossing the Carroll Street bridge, which you , and visiting Monte's, is about the most Brooklyn thing you can do. At least it feels that way!
And then tasting the food at the newly re-opened landmark makes you feel like you've never had Italian food before, it's that good.
A dish like fried calamari can be very boring - not so at Monte's. The oil must be especially hot because the rings (and lots of tendrils) came out super crispy. The addition of chunks of zucchini brightened the dish, adding a summery crunch. On the side, a spicy salsa picante, not your basic marinara at all.

Everything we ate at Monte's, including a caramelized onion, parmesan and cauliflower baked dish, was superb. Visit now if you haven't already.
