BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY — So don't freak out, but we're seeing cold, hard confirmation this frigid Monday evening that the storefront formerly housing Choi's Art Nails on Atlantic Avenue (R.I.P!) will soon be transformed into to Brooklyn's first permanent cat cafe.
The cafe will be run by the Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition, the same animal-rescue and -adoption org that opened a pop-up cat cafe in Fort Greene last fall as a sort of temporary test drive.
"We just signed a lease for our new space at 149 Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn Heights!" the coalition announced on its website Monday.
Brooklyn's first cat cafe, in the style of Meow Parlour in Chinatown and Little Lions in SoHo, will be an indoor playhouse where you the cat lover can meet and pet and adopt your future forever cat — or just hang out with a bunch of two-timing cats for $10 per hour. All while eating a snack or sipping a drink, if you wish.
149 Atlantic Avenue. Soon to be THE BROOKLYN CAT CAFE!YES, it's happening! Grand opening party May 6! As you can see...

But building a permanent cat cafe is no small feat. The Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition is asking locals to consider donating to the organization and/or volunteering to help with stuff like painting, moving, organizing, sorting, writing and doing administrative work — all toward the ultimate dream of opening shop at 149 Atlantic this upcoming May 6.
If that sounds like something you'd be up for, you can email cafe managers at volunteers@catcafebk.com.
You can also pitch in by ponying up for a $75 ticket to the cafe's opening party on May 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., which is destined to be the Brooklyn Heights party of the century, for obvious reasons.
