COBBLE HILL, BROOKLYN — It should come as no surprise to the neighborhood — or at least those that followed foodie awards this year — that La Vara on Clinton Street is a top restaurant in the city.

But for those that need another reason to stop by the Iberian-style eatery, La Vara has now made it onto Eater's list of " The 38 Essential Restaurants in New York City" for the summer.

La Vara was the only eatery from Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo to make the list, although about a dozen other Brooklyn spots were featured from other areas in the borough.

The food publication recognized the chefs who run La Vara, who were James Beard finalists for the restauranteur category earlier this year, for their work making it "one of the city's best Iberian spots."

"Chefs Alex Raij and Eder Montero tip their hats to the Moorish and Sephardic traditions of Spain, serving up coriander and cumin-spiced half chickens, spreadable Menocrcan sausages with honey foam, and suckling pig with rose petal quince sauce," Eater wrote. "Be sure to book well ahead, as bar seating can command waits in excess of 90 minutes on a weekend."

Other Brooklyn spots that landed on the list included Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook, which also got a James Beard shoutout this year, Claro in Gowanus and new Korean eatery Haenyeo in Park Slope.
