Cobble Hill Indian Restaurant Shut Down For Mice, Roaches

Health inspectors ordered the restaurant close this week after they found 53 violations, records show.

COBBLE HILL, BROOKLYN -- Flies, roaches, mice and a slew of other health violations has shut down the Indian restaurant Curry Heights this week, records show. The eatery was given 53 violation points in an inspection on Monday, nearly double the number that requires it close.

Health inspectors found evidence of mice, roaches and "filth flies" present in the restaurant. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies, officials said.

They also found that personal cleanliness was inadequate in the restaurant, including employees who didn't wear hair restraints where food was prepared or who wore garments that were soiled. Food contact surfaces were also not properly washed or sanitized and pesticides were not used in accordance with laws, records show.

Despite the order to close, the restaurant seemed to be well received online, where it was given four out of five stars by reviewers. The Remsen Street restaurant advertises that it serves "only the finest of Haute Northern Indian cuisine in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn."

A call to the restaurant went unanswered on Friday.
