Girl Scouts Protest Pacific Library Closure
Troop members say they love the Boerum Hill building.

A video capturing a group of Girl Scouts protesting the Pacific Library closure is making the rounds on the Internet. But will cuteness be enough to save this Carnegie building from demolition?
The Brooklyn Public Library announced earlier this year that it planned to close the Pacific Street branch in Boerum Hill, which is in need of $9 million in repairs to critical infrastructure and building systems, in order to sell to a developer and relocate. While the City Council has yet to approve the decision, community members and local electeds in opposition to the closure are speaking out—including its tinier residents.
"I feel horrible, I'm really sad and kind of mad," said a young member of Troop #2657, which meets regularly at the library.
"Why would anyone want to tear down a building as old as this one?" asks another in response to the reporter, a friend of troop members.
In addition to the video, the troop has presented a petition to Councilman Stephen Levin and spoken in defense of their cause on the steps of City Hall.
