St. Saviour High School Student Honored by Girl Scouts

St. Saviour High School senior Lesego Pearl Nkosi was recently honored by the Girl Scouts of Greater New York at a "Women of Distinction" breakfast event at Cipriani Restaurant in Manhattan. 

The breakfast raised a record-setting $365,000 for the Girls Scouts program.  Nkosi currently attends the Park Slope high school but is originally from Pretoria, South Africa. 

Annual South Slope Silent Art Auction to benefit PS295

The fourth annual South Slope Silent Art Auction to benefit Brooklyn's PS295, the Studio School of Arts and Culture, will be held at Two Moon Art House and Cafe on 4th Avenue in Park Slope.

The auction will take place Nov. 22 from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m and the show is on view now.

Red Hook Boaters to be Recognized at Parks Conference

The Red Hook Boaters, a volunteer organization that provides free kayaking in Red Hook, will be honored for its work to help maintain the beachfront at Valentino Pier.

The volunteer group will receive the Golden Trowel award at the second annual Partnerships for Parks conference at NYU School of Law Nov. 16. The Golden Trowel award was designed to recognize groups’ commitment to enacting change in neighborhood parks through community activism. 

Here's How to Help to Connect Families in Wake of Typhoon Haiyan

In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, the American Red Cross is assisting family members concerned for their loved ones impacted by the tragic events in the Philippines over the weekend.

The Red Cross is accepting inquiries for relatives looking for information on missing family members following the massive storm that officials say may have killed as many as 10,000 people and left others without food, water, transportation or communication in the devastation that followed.
